RSS feeds are used to make it easier to keep track of frequently updated work. Given that your blog can be changed as often as you want, it's easier for people to stay up-to-date with your latest posts by using an RSS reader. The beauty of RSS feeds is that they can be submitted to websites such as Feedburner, who can distribute your feed to hundreds of channels (for free) giving you much more exposure and allow you to analyse who is reading what.

Just keep blogging and your RSS feed will stay up-to-date automatically!

How to use RSS feeds

RSS feeds provided by a website can be accessed in various ways:

  • By clicking the Star icon and selecting 'Feeds' in Internet Explorer 7
  • The Orange icon in the bottom right of Firefox
  • Clicking the blue RSS icon in the address bar in Opera
  • use an RSS News reader if using Internet Explorer or another browser

To read an RSS feed, you need to subscribe to them. This is free and no information about who has subscribed is held. Depending on how you are reading the feeds, they may appear in the Bookmarks menu option, or be displayed in a news reader application that you have installed.

To add an RSS feed to your browser or news reader, you can click the orange RSS link on the page or by cutting and pasting the link into your news reader.
